Variety in your reading selection will increase your familiarity with different types of materials and improve vocabulary, comprehension, and speed. Another helpful practice is to boost your vocabulary by focusing on root words, prefixes, and suffixes. This method will allow you to form words and decipher unfamiliar words. Taking a literature course is also helpful; it will expose you to various authors, styles, and vocabulary usage.
Math skills may be enhanced by making sure you know basic arithmetic facts without using a calculator. This simple step speeds up your ability to do mental calculations so that you can focus on formulas and problem solving. If you are a visual learner, draw pictures and charts. You can also create your own word problems to make sure you understand and can apply what you have learned.
